Brief History of Temple

Temple Independent Methodist Church was founded in 1951, with the Rev. Euril Stepp as pastor. The work was started on Ansel Street in Spartanburg in a building which formerly housed the Old Episcopal Church. In 1954 the church debt and parsonage was paid off. In 1961, the Congregation of Ansel Street Chapel purchased the Old Jewish Temple on South Dean Street and was renamed Temple Methodist Church (Independent).

Dedication for the present church building was March 11, 1973, contractor Mr. James Solesbee, cost $152,000.00. August 1982, the church debt was paid off. Also debt free with the church fellowship building, the parsonage and the church van. New stained glass windows and a grand piano updated the beauty of the church sanctuary. In it's history Temple Independent Methodist Church has continued to do the work of the Lord through many dedicated and faithful Christians. The purpose still remains... to Preach the Gospel.
